College Recognized for High Standards in Online Education

Notre Dame College has been recognized by the Quality Matters Program as one of only 17 higher education institutions nationwide who meet QM’s high standards for the design of online courses.

Notre Dame is one of two colleges in Ohio to receive this recognition and is committed to continue to implement the Quality Matters standards for the design of online courses. The College is systematically building and evaluating its courses based on these rigorous, research-supported standards, which assure that the online components of these courses promote learner engagement and provide students with all the tools and information they need to be successful learners.

“This recognition is a great honor,” said LuAnne Holder, director of online educational services at Notre Dame College. “We are committed to conduct QM reviews of our online courses, train faculty in applying the QM rubric, and support faculty in becoming certified peer and master reviewers.”

The Quality Matters Program is a leader in quality assurance for distance learning and has received national recognition for its contributions to continuous improvement in online education and online student learning. Quality Matters develops and disseminates rubrics for the effective design of online and blended courses based on best practices advocated by leading distance learning organizations and research findings on effective online learning. QM sponsors a faculty-centered, peer review process to evaluate the design of such courses, recommend enhancements, and certify courses that meet its standards.

QM provides professional development opportunities to faculty and staff by offering a wide range of online and face-to-face workshops and hosting national and regional conferences. More than 500 U.S. colleges and universities, K-12 schools and systems, and other academic institutions subscribe to QM's services and utilize QM's design rubrics.
