Notre Dame College Presents 'A Fascination with Nature' Exhibit of Watercolors

Notre Dame College’s Clara Fritzsche Library will host “A Fascination with Nature,” an exhibition of watercolors showcasing the spiritual beauty of America’s natural scenes by Cleveland-area artist Ron Friedman July 23 through Aug. 30.

An opening reception will be held in the library from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Premiering new works based on Friedman’s travels throughout Ohio and the U.S., the exhibit features his creations—such as collage-like paintings of foliage, flowers and pastoral scenes—that depict feelings and reflections from his adventures.

A keen observer, the Chesterland, Ohio, artist crafts in a delicate style often reminiscent of Robert Laessig, an internationally known floral artist. Friedman’s works are all rendered with a remarkable attention to detail and assurance of technique, particularly difficult to achieve when using the unpredictable and fluid medium of watercolor.

Friedman has enjoyed drawing and painting since childhood. After a stint in the military, marriage, raising four daughters and starting a business, his artistic endeavors have reached an apex in retirement. Friedman returns to the Clara Fritzsche Library gallery for a third time.

The exhibit may be viewed during library hours: Monday-Tuesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays.
