Notre Dame College’s Abrahamic Center will follow up its Distinguished Lecture by Nontombi Naomi Tutu with a series of discussions that heed the speaker’s call to the community to seek out the shared humanity in others.

Notre Dame College student scientists and a faculty member have identified a gene likely responsible for proper embryo production in fruit flies.

Their findings regarding the function of the previously unstudied CG15436—now called the Hunchback of Notre Dame College (hndc)—gene gives insight into normal egg production due to the similarities between the DNA of fruit flies and more complex biological organisms.

Undergraduate intelligence studies and criminal justice majors at Notre Dame College now have access to a program that can sponsor them for national security clearance—and give them real-world experience in providing analytic support to local law enforcement and the national intelligence community.

Through Notre Dame’s 15-week classroom Intelligence Internship partnership with the Advanced Technical Intelligence Center for Human Capital Development (ATIC), students can be granted access to and learn from actual classified materials.

Notre Dame College has received a $200,000 donation to support the capital campaign for its Academic Support Center for Students with Learning Differences. The donor, a Notre Dame alumna, wishes to remain anonymous. The funds will also be used to help the College meet a $375,000 challenge grant for improvements to Regina Hall that include creating a facility for the Center.

Notre Dame College announces the addition of three new members to its Board of Trustees; Jack Myslenski and Jim Drozdowski, approved at the Board’s October meeting, will join Maureen Raleigh Bihn, appointed to the Board in June, as the newest members.

Maureen Raleigh Bihn is a 1979 alumna of the College with a degree in business administration. She is manager of ore sales administration at Cleveland Cliffs Natural Resources, where she has risen through the ranks after starting as a staff accountant upon graduating from Notre Dame.

As the 50th anniversary of former President John F. Kennedy‘s assassination approaches on Nov. 22, a former Notre Dame College student has published an article in a national art journal honoring a memorial scroll─ created at the College five decades ago─that commemorates the fallen president.

Notre Dame College will host its annual holiday celebration─a campus lighting and Christmas concert─Friday, December 6.

The lighting of the 20-foot College Christmas tree will be on the front lawn of Regina Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by festive beverages and light hors d’oeuvres. The College Department of Performing Arts then will present their annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. in Regina Auditorium. Both events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Andrew P. Roth, 67, has announced his retirement as president of Notre Dame College effective June 30, 2014. Roth, the thirteenth president in the College's 91-year history, has served since July, 2003.
