Notre Dame College Women's Basketball Hosts Make-A-Wish Reveal

Notre Dame College’s women's basketball program has presented an on-court Make-A-Wish reveal.

It was an island-themed day in Murphy Gymnasium of the Keller Center on the College campus for both women's and men's basketball games. The student section had come prepared with their Hawaiian shirts.

Following the Falcons’ 97-50 victory over Concord University, the women’s basketball team announced its star of the day, a local youth named Kelly with Make-A-Wish. And the College gifted her and her family with a trip to the Bahamas.

In just the first two months of 2017, Notre Dame’s athletics department has raised more than $4,000 for Make-A-Wish, including about $3,600 over the weekend for Kelly and her family.

"I am so proud of the passion of our student-athletes to get behind this great cause," said Scott Swain, director of athletics at the College. "The enthusiasm they showed on Saturday's reveal was truly remarkable. I know we brightened Kelly's life today, and that is what we are all about."

After the women’s game, Kelly was introduced and brought to center court, where she was presented a special basketball with her picture and the words "Honorary Falcon" imprinted on it.

With representatives from the College’s sports programs standing in a line, a carpet was rolled out on the court and luggage bags were revealed. This led to the surprise that Kelly and her family are going on a vacation to the Bahamas.

After the reveal, the crowd gave Kelly a standing ovation, and in a show of support, several in the stands held up signs with words of encouragement for her.
