Notre Dame Names New Nursing Chair

Notre Dame College has named Dr. Beth L. Kaskel, DNP, MS, RN, CNE the new chair of its nursing division, replacing Dr. Diane Jedlicka who retired last year.

“When Diane Jedlicka announced she was stepping down, we knew we had a monumental task at hand in finding a replacement,” Provost Dr. Mary Breckenridge said of the appointment. “After an exhaustive search and interview process, we are delighted to have attracted the caliber of nursing professional that we found in Beth Kaskel. Her unique set of skills, experiences and credentials are a perfect match for guiding the division forward upon the solid base Diane built up over the last five years.”

Dr. Kaskel comes to Notre Dame College from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, where she served as associate professor of nursing since 2006. In this position, she was responsible for the teaching, evaluation and advising of pre-licensure nursing students and coordinated courses in psychiatric mental health nursing and clinical pathophysiology as well as a professional seminar.

Previous positions held by Dr. Kaskel include: nursing program director and associate professor at Ohio Northern University; assistant professor and state-tested nursing assistant trainer at James A. Rhodes State College; as well as program/regional director of geriatric partial hospitalization programs at Richland Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio.

Dr. Kaskel’s professional accomplishments are many, including:

  • Attained approval and authorization from the Higher Learning Commission, the Ohio Board of Regents, and the Ohio Board of Nursing for a pre-licensure nursing education BSN program;
     
  • Attained approval and authorization from the Higher Learning Commission and the Ohio Board of Regents for an RN-BSN completion program offered at off-site locations;
     
  • Initiated and established more than 15 clinical affiliation agreements for nursing clinical opportunities with both local and regional partnerships including the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and University Hospitals of Cleveland;
     
  • Developed a National Student Nurses Association at an Ohio college for nursing program students;
     
  • Recruited and hired faculty for pre-licensure and RN-BSN programs;
     
  • Actively promoted and marketed programs to the community and worked with admissions department on student recruitment;
     
  • Established a nursing program advisory board;
     
  • Engaged in education and clinical research;
     
  • Reviewed programs for the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

Dr. Kaskel has taught a comprehensive array of nursing courses, chaired committees on student retention, and served on assessment and evaluation committees. She is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Nurses Association, the Ohio Nurses Association and the Gerontological Society of America.

Dr. Kaskel’s academic degrees include a B.S. in Behavioral Biology from Marietta College, as well as an M.S.N., a nursing doctorate, a postdoctoral fellowship, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University.
