Professor Blogs About Holocaust Studies

Professor of Theology and Women’s Studies Dr. Louise Prochaska is spending three weeks in Jerusalem, Israel, as a participant in the Summer Institute at Yad Vashem, the most comprehensive center of Holocaust commemoration in the world.

The institute prepares college and high school instructors to teach about the Holocaust and the lessons we need to apply in our generation. International scholars will develop four themes:

1) God, Jews and History;
2) Anti-Judaism in the Christian Middle Ages and in the 20th Century;
3) Persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany and Jewish resistance;
4) What we need to do after the Holocaust.

There are 42 participants from several countries including the USA, Canada (18 each), and one each from Mexico, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, the U.K. and Macedonia. The group will visit Galilee, Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Massada, the Dead Sea, and north to the Golan Heights. They will also visit Jerusalem’s Old City and explore its rich history.

Dr. Prochaska will regularly blog about what she’s learning and experiencing.
