Van Driver Training

Van Certification 2016-2017 School Year

Starting this academic school year, we will be conducting (1) Initial Certification and (1) Re-certification course per month. All Faculty, staff, students and volunteers who plan to drive an NDC van must complete the Initial Van Certification Program [and] complete annually, the van Re-certification program.

Please make sure you PLAN AHEAD to ensure plenty of time to achieve certification/re-certification, as we will no longer offer individualized or impromptu classes, as has been done in the past. The courses listed are the ONLY courses that will be taught for the coming school year.

Just to recap all the requirements and procedures, please read and following the list below:

  1. All drivers of the College’s vans must be 21 years of age or older at the time they take the course or within three weeks of their 21st birthday at the time they take the course. We cannot deviate from this and there are no exceptions.

  2. All drivers must have valid Driver’s Licenses from either the State of Ohio [OR] their home state AND NOT BE UNDER SUSPENSION IN OHIO at the time they take the class and road test.

  3. All drivers regardless of age, must obtain an original certified driving record abstract from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the State’s equivalent agency (if not from Ohio) in which their license was issued. YOU MUST PRESENT THE ORIGINIAL CERTIFIED ABSTRACT AT THE TIME OF THE CLASS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE ROAD TEST UNTIL YOU HAVE ONE. The Abstract must be fresh and no more than thirty days of the class start date…no exceptions.

  4. Conviction for certain driving offenses within the past five years prohibits you from driving college vans under the insurance policy. These include, but not limited to: OVI or Operating a vehicle while under the influence, reckless operation, vehicle assault, 2 or more speeding citations within a three year period. Please consult the Colleges driving policy for all restrictions and disqualifiers.

  5. All class registrations will be handled directly by the Van Driving Certification Instructor/Coordinator James Owens. He can be reached by calling him at: (330)-592-5961 or by email: jowens@ndc.edu. You must contact him directly via one of these two methods to register for a class. Please ensure you have made positive contact with Mr. Owens (either by phone or email) and confirm your attendance and spot…he will send you a confirmation email for your records, indicating that you are registered for a class. If you do not have email confirmation from him, you have not positively registered for the course. If these two methods fail and you have not heard back from him in 72-hours from your initial attempt(s), please feel free to email Jeffrey Scott at jscott@ndc.edu for assistance.

  6. Van classroom takes place on Tuesdays 3:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.  Driving tests are Thursdays 3:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Please complete the registration form (see forms below) and send it to Van Driving Certification Instructor/Coordinator James Owens at jowens@ndc.edu no later than one week before the class date.

Again, PLEASE plan ahead and do not delay getting registered for either the initial course, or ensure you have planned ahead and not allow your current 1-year certification to lapse. ALL current van drivers must complete an ANNUAL re-certification course and check-out ride.
